The Stigma

The Stigma

Mental Health is such a taboo subject that nobody really wants to talk about. Instead, we sweep it under the rug and just call people crazy. I was one of those people before it happened to me. You never really take it seriously until you find out, you, a friend, or a family member is dealing with it.

I never knew my great grandmother was Schizophrenic until my diagnosis. Now, looking back on it I saw the symptoms. In mid conversation, she would stop and whisper that the people next door could hear us. I loved my grandmother dearly. It never stopped me from loving her and I had no idea at the time. People with a mental illness are just like anyone else. We all have our crosses to bear and with the proper medication and support system we can live a "normal life".
