Level Up

Level Up

10 years ago, I was 23 managing a small boutique. I learned a lot. I met some amazing girls who changed my outlook on life and brought me out of my shell. My Assistant, Auriel whom I brought from another store that I managed prior, was amazing I couldn’t do it without her. She had an eye for fashion and visual presentation. I learned a lot from her. Our store was merchandised to perfection.

Fast forward to now, I currently manage a men’s specialty store. I have learned a lot about men and shoes in my current role. I brought my Assistant, Eboni with me from another store that I managed prior. I remember when I first met her. I was conducting a group interview and she was part of the group. I would ask the group a question and she would be the first to reply. I saw something in her. Her willingness to learn and inquisitive nature has always been something I admired her for.

So, why am I telling you all of this?

It’s all part of the level up. When you have drive. You pick up on that. You find your tribe. Throughout my career, I have groomed other young women around me to become better than me. That is a sign of a great leader. What’s the point of becoming successful? If you can’t put other people into position. This puts you into an even better position because now you have a network. My phone is filled with the numbers of women I have met throughout my journey. I may need their help one day. That’s a huge part of leveling up. Each level you will meet different people along the way. It will show you who is dependable and trustworthy. Once they have proven themselves, you take them to the next level with you or put them into a position to win. I like to think that everyone I have ever met has learned something from me of value. That’s most important.

As I embark on my new role, I am thrilled to meet a whole new team of women that I get to coach and develop, but also I get to learn from them as well. You should always want to learn more and meet new people.

That’s how you LEVEL UP!!!
